Besides that polluted surface water caused by leachate affects the health of the population, especially for residents who live around the place of final disposal. The everlasting liquefaction of volume will seep into the soil which will contaminate the subsurface water which will eventually lead to the contamination of shallow wells that the population uses as a source of drinking water.

The existence of a place of final disposal which is not far from river must be aware of the pollution by leachate. The river flows and is still used by some residents for everyday purposes such as bathing and washing. If the river is polluted by leachate seeps it will have a negative impact on the people who still use the river water, both residents around the place of final disposal and residents downstream along the river.
